Rowan Thambar

Rowan Thambar is a nationally touring comedian, television writer, producer, performer and host whose work spans stand-up comedy, television, radio, corporate events and branded content.

Known for his warm, story-driven style, Rowan has spent more than a decade developing a distinctive comedic voice that combines sharp joke writing with honest observations about everyday life. His comedy is clever without being inaccessible, personal without being predictable, and designed to leave audiences laughing long after the show is over.

Rowan was nominated for Best Comedy at the Melbourne Fringe Festival in 2017. The following year, he was selected for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s prestigious Comedy Zone showcase, which introduces audiences to some of Australia’s most promising emerging comedians.

In 2025, Rowan released his first stand-up special, Small Talk, on YouTube and made his debut on the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow. He returned the following year as a featured headliner, performing throughout regional Australia, and made his Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala debut at the Asian All Star Gala, filmed for SBS.

In 2026, Rowan embarked on his first national tour with Sorry For The Late Reply, taking the show to Adelaide, Melbourne, Newcastle, Brisbane and Sydney. He has since sold out shows around the country and regularly headlines comedy clubs across Australia.

Television and Writing

Alongside his stand-up career, Rowan spent three years at Channel 10’s The Project, initially joining the program as a comedy writer before becoming a comedy producer.

During his time on the show, he contributed jokes, sketches and comedy segments across hundreds of episodes, helping create content for one of Australia’s best-known nightly television programs.

His television credits also include work behind the scenes on ABC programs Question Everything and Claire Hooper’s House of Games.

Rowan regularly appears on ABC Radio National’s TGIF with Charlie Pickering and has been featured by The Guardian, The Today Show, ABC Radio Sydney, ABC Radio Melbourne, ABC Radio Darwin, Triple R’s Smart Arts, Domain and the Newcastle Herald.

His stand-up has also found a large online audience, with clips attracting hundreds of thousands of views, including a viral routine exploring the cultural legacy of LMFAO.

As a comedy writer, Rowan has worked across television, live entertainment and advertising. In 2026, he contributed to XXXX’s national advertising campaign, bringing his distinctive sense of humour to one of Australia’s most recognisable brands.
